Disappointing.
North Carolina Voters Pass Same-sex Marriage Ban
I think this is especially disappointing for a lot of people because not only does it hinder equal rights for the LGBT community, but it also displays a severe lack of progression on both sympathetic and logical levels for America. I am happy to live in a state that aids in the support of non-discrimination for minority communities, but it’s upsetting how the majority is still fueling the hetero-normative standard homophobics have created.
Also, it sucks how people use religion as an authoritative tool to direct the public into hating what is not normalized by society. The role of religion is huge in this issue, and that’s scary. If this institution deems being gay as being a less-valuable human being than a heterosexual, then how may it impact other people who identify as outside what is considered the “norm?” When will being gay, using birth control, or identifying as an atheist go from being looked down upon to illegal?
